What is Perlane®?
Perlane® is an injection that can get rid of the appearance of wrinkles and enhance areas of your face immediately — including lips, superficial lines around the mouth, forehead lines, and smile lines. Perlane® is a non-animal Hyaluronic Acid, manufactured by a unique method in the Q-Med Laboratories in Sweden.
Commonly used for:
-Diminishing worry lines, smile lines, crow’s feet, marionette lines, and smoker’s lines
-Reducing the severity of nasolabial folds
-Filling cheek depressions
-Creating temporary eyebrow lift
-Filling hollows under the eyes
Hyaluronic Acid is a naturally occurring substance in the body so it naturally dissipates into the body with time. All living organisms have Hyaluronic Acid in their bodies. In humans this is the substance that creates volume in ones face, giving it a healthy, young appearance. Perlane® is the perfect filler for use in laugh lines and lasts slightly longer than Restylane®. Perlane® is used for deeper wrinkles and has larger particles that are injected deeper into the skin than Restylane®.
Dr. Partington or Dr. Windle will discuss with you the site of injection along with how many syringes are appropriate. Restylane® injection takes approximately 30 minutes and patients are sent home immediately following. Perlane® dissolves naturally into the body over time with results lasting up to 6 months or more. Perlane® is injected into the skin with a very small needle, making injection virtually painless. There is no anesthesia require but a topical anesthesia or ice may be applied to relieve slight pain. There are no marks or scars and some results are seen immediately. Over the next few months, the Hyaluronic Acid will work with the collagen production in the body and results will continue to improve. Time between each treatment will be discussed with Dr. Partington prior to treatment.
There is no down-time and any redness, swelling or bruising resides in a couple of days. Patients are advised to stay away from any vigorous physical activity, but may proceed to normal activities immediately. Patients are advised against toughing or massaging of the area. Staying away from excessive sun (heat) and cold is also advised. If side effects are bothersome or are lasting much longer than you feel appropriate, contact Dr. Partington or Dr. Windle to discuss your concerns.
