What is Bellafill®?
Bellafill® contains a small amount of PMMA (polymethylmethacrylate) microspheres and mostly purified bovine collagen gel with some local anesthetic for comfort during injection. The collagen is absorbed over the first three to four months after our injection, while the PMMA asks your body to make its own collagen. In other words, the collagen in the Bellafill® initially corrects and fills in the wrinkle deformity, then the microspheres provide the permanent support your skin needs for long lasting wrinkle correction by getting your body to make your own tissue.
Bellafill® is different.
Where the results of temporary fillers end, the enduring benefits of Bellafill® continue.
Unlike the other temporary dermal fillers available such as Juvederm, Juvederm Voluma, Restylane, Radiesse, Perlane, Sculptra and the Vampire Lift that are all eventually absorbed by the body and require frequent repeat injections to maintain correction, Bellafill® does not appear to be absorbed although the latest study is only 5 years.
Bellafill® is indicated for the correction of facial wrinkles known as nasolabial folds or smile lines. Some people should not receive Bellafill®, including those who have a positive reaction to the Bellafill® collagen skin test; have a history of severe allergies manifested by a history of anaphylaxis, or history or presence of multiple severe allergies; are allergic to the anesthetic (lidocaine); have a history of allergies to any bovine collagen products; are undergoing or planning to undergo desensitization injections to meat products; are prone to thick scar formation and/or excessive scarring.
As with any injectable wrinkle filler, you can expect mild swelling and reddening at the treatment site. Swelling can last for 2 days to 2 weeks. Bruising can last up to 14 days. Treatments under the eye can have mild swelling for up to 3 months. If you are taking aspirin or anti-inflammatory drugs you may experience increased bruising or bleeding at the injection sites. Patients with any skin outbreaks (e.g. cysts, pimples, rashes, hives, and infection) near the injection site should postpone treatment until they clear. Patients who have a history of cold sores may be pretreated with an antiviral. The safety and effectiveness of Bellafill® beyond one year have not been established.
